Motanka

The old portrait of Motanka was created on the 18th of March 2023. My skill back then allowed me to create much more difficult and intricate pieces than this one; however, I could not perform well due to the art block. The art block can occur due to various reasons, and each might take a different approach on how to deal with it. For instance, when I was drawing this portrait last year, I felt no connection to the process at all, thus resulting with me not caring much about the quality of the initial sketch, as well as the final look of the painting. However, at the first glance, it could just seem that I simply lacked the skill and practice for this type of composition. I just lacked any emotion that could drive me to be more productive and stay focused.

Creation – is a very emotional process, and I decided to recreate Motanka this year, feeling more invested into the process, just to show you how your emotional state can affect your performance. Art blocks can make you question the strength of your skill, meanwhile the this is not necessarily associated with your ability to create, but rather with the things that might be beyond your control. For the artists (especially the growing ones), it may seem as they downgraded, although it is not true. Losing interest might be one of the indicators that you may need to take a break from creating. Your skill will not go anywhere, and your brain may require some time to digest better what has been learnt recently.
